Un moteur et une partie cycle de Superbike
Initialement prévu en 990 cm3, le V-Twin de la RC8 répondait aux exigences du Superbike de l'époque. Le règlement ayant évolué, le moteur de la KTM RC8 est aujourd'hui annoncé à 1190 cm3. Le moteur équipant la 990 Superduke affichant 120 chevaux, on peut raisonnablement estimer la puissance de la RC8 à un peu plus de 150 chevaux. Une puissance qui est de toute manière le minimum pour s'aligner face à l'armada japonaise en Superbike.
Car c'est bien l'objectif d'une telle moto. Développée avec l'aide du département Compétition GP, chaque élément a été pensé pour être efficace, à l'image de son bras oscillant composé de trois parties moulées et de deux renforts latéraux aptes à encaisser les torsions latérales sans gréver le poids de l'ensemble. Avec un moteur réputé pour être le plus léger de sa catégorie, la RC8 devrait voir son poids général passer sous la barre des 170 kg.

Plus de 150 ch. (au minimum) pour moins de 170 kg, voilà de quoi donner à réfléchir aux concurrents. Avec comme slogan "Ready to race" [prêt à courir], il n'est guère surprenant d'apprendre que KTM a décidé d'engager une RC8 sur le Championnat de France Superbike dès 2008 comme nous le confiait Philippe Donischal. Un ultime essai grandeur nature avant l'arrivée en WSBK aux côté de BMW ?
